Biomass is a renewed energy source of plants and microorganisms

Biomass is an organic material received from plants and microorganisms (bacteria, molds, protozoa, yeast, algae).

Biomass contains solar energy reserves. Plants absorb solar energy in the process called photosynthesis. Chemical energy of plants is transferred to animals and people, while eating them. Biomass is a renewable energy source because we always may grow up more wood and plants and there is always run-off. Some types of fuel are produced from wood, crops and grain varieties some kinds of dung. When biomass is being burnt chemical energy is emitted as heat. If you have a fireplace wood which is burnt there is biomass fuel. Wood waste or rubbish can be used for steam production for electrical energy supply or for heating and industrial needs.

Transformation in other forms of biomass energy

Burning of biomass is not the only way of its energy receiving. Biomass can be transformed into other types such as methane or transport fuel, for example biodiesel or ethanol. Gas methane is the main ingredient of nature gas, methane is also called “biogas”. Ethanol can be made of agricultural plants such as sugar cane and corn. Biodiesel, another transport fuel can be made of left food products: vegetable and animal fat.

Wood is the most common biomass form. For thousand years people were burning wood in order to heat their homes and cook meal. Wood was the main energy source till the middle of XIX century. Wood still is the main energy source in many less developed countries. Many manufacturing enterprises of wood and paper industry use wood waste for energy production. This technology is an economy for company because solves the question with utilizing its waste and provides cutting of the costs for electrical energy.

Biomass (or biogenous) materials are contained in such waste as paper, carton, pack paper, grass, leaves, wood and leather foods and also non biogenous combustible materials, most of all plastic and other synthetic material made of oil.

Electrical energy manufacture is not the only advantage of waste energy production. In fact it is more costly than producing it from coal on the base of nuclear or hydroelectric power station. Dumps can be an energy source. Anaerobe bacteria living in decomposition product of organic residues can produce biogas containing methane. Methane is the same saturated gas as nature gas used for heating, cooking and electrical energy production. Methane has neither smell, nor color and is a very strong greenhouse gas. Usually odorous substances with bad smell are added into nature gas in order to make gas leak easy detected. Biogas can also be dangerous for people or environment. It is necessary to control emission of methane for security and pollution control. On some damps methane is just burnt to be eliminated. However it can be used as an energy source.

Of course superconductor is not a perpetuum mobile but it allows preventing energy loses and maybe in future humankind will be able to advance in this direction. In order to avoid resistance of metal scientist cool it in special way till very low temperatures so low that such gases as helium and nitrogen transfer into liquid condition. If all conductors will be superconductive it will be easier and more secure to transport electricity to our flats, factories, schools and nurseries easier and nature reserves will be used more economically. New cars, trains, spacecrafts and planes where this effect can be applied will be better and more perfect and damage to the environment will be much less.
