Superconductor Technologies Inc. Reports First Quarter 2012 Results

Superconductor Technologies Inc. (STI), a world leader in the development and production of high temperature superconducting (HTS) materials and associated technologies, in particular of second generation (2G) HTS wire, reported results for the quarter ended March 31, 2012.

In accordance with the plan drawn up before the company's employees have succeeded during the first quarter in producing HTS tape with a current density of 500 amperes per centimeter width at 77 K, which will expand the range of practical applications of the final product.

In addition, STI has completed the clean room construction at their new Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AMCE) facility in Austin, where the first specialty production machine has been installed (they expect to receive the next two machines during the second quarter). These three machines will be used to produce significantly greater quantities of Conductus(R) wire.
